Vintage Chic

Hallo there!

D'you know John Masefield's
poem?  The one that starts
I must go down to the sea again
the lonely sea and the sky......

Feel a bit like that myself today..

Here's Louise Thomson
she has her eye on the
sea too ....

"I found a very plain piece of 12”x 12” paper 
and spread it with sand texture paste 
in a loose cross shape. 

(I later regretted not choosing paper with
 a bit more weight to it, but hey ho.) 

Down the middle I added a scrap of lace.

On to some tissue paper I stamped the 
Blue Fern seaside stamp using memento ink.

 I tore scraps of this out and added 
to my base paper.

I gave the whole thing a watered down 
coating of Fresco nougat paint. 

Starting in the centre of the texture paste 
I spritzed water on to the paper and then 
sprinkled Brushos over the top.

 In some areas I added extra water and 
then blew the paint with a straw to create
 extra runs and drips.

Once the Brushos were dry I used 
a sizzix layering stencil, 
more Nougat paint and some 
cut n dry foam to add in a lacy design.

On to a separate piece of card I stamped the

 Blue Fern seaside stamp twice. 
I lightly distressed the edges and added 
a little gold alchemy wax.

On to this I added my beachy photo, 
also with some wax and paint 
added around the edges. 

(In case anyone is interested, 
this beautiful beach is at 
Heartland Point in North Devon. 
Well worth a visit – we saw 
seals the day we went!) 

I also die cut some flowers from 
the Sizzix wildflowers die set.

I partially re inked the seaside stamp using 
Broken China Distress Oxide ink and 
then spritzed with water before stamping 
a few times around the edges of the project. 

I found you can get two or three good 
prints like this before needing to re ink.

I also added a few die cut birds 
using an Impression Obsession die. 
These were then painted over in Fresco paint 
and had a little of the Brushos blended in with them.

Finally I added a selection of bits and pieces 
from my ‘things-too-pretty-to-throw-away-and-
I’m-sure-I’ll-find-a-use-for-them-one-day’ drawer. 

This included a flower made out of more lace 
with a brad pressed through the middle, 
a ceramic button that I was kidding myself 
if I thought I would ever get around to 
stitching on to a cardy, and a little glass bottle
 that once contained tiny beads, now stuffed 
with a scrap of stamped card as a 
message in a bottle. 

With a little fine liner doodling around the edge,

 the whole page was complete"

Hi Everyone!

How're you doing?  If you

will be looking forward to
the Bank Holiday...

planned and the weather will
be good .........  Fingers crossed

Claire Jackson is with us today 
to share a beautiful card that
could be sent to anyone for any

"Cut a square of white card 41/8 x 41/8 inches. 
Stamp the main bird vignette image and 
emboss in black detail embossing powder

Tape down the harlequin stencil onto one half 
of the card blank and mask off the other half 
to prevent any stray specks of Brusho getting on it.

Sprinkle Ost. Blue Brusho over the stencil and
 spritz the card and stencil with water. 

Blot with a paper towel to remove any excess 
water and remove the stencil. 

Dry thoroughly with a heat tool.

Tape the stencil back in place. 

Use the triangular stamp in the set 
without a mount, tapping it on the 
ink pad and pressing randomly 
over the stencil.

Sprinkle ost. blue Brusho around the edge 
of the embossed image and spritz 
with water. 

Blot with a paper towel to control
 how much the crystals spread.

Sprinkle ost. blue onto a craft mat and mix with 
a wet paint brush, paint over the bird before 
diluting down to paint the bird seed box. 

Repeat with violet and colour the flower and leaves.

Use the triangular stamp unmounted again 
to add swirls around the edge of the main image

Add shaded lilac Distress Ink to darken 
the edges and highlights with a gel pen. 

Mount onto black card before securing to 
the centre of the card blank"

Hi There!

Hope the week is treating you
kindly and the work not piling
up around you...............

I'm thinking it might be nice
to at least catch sight of my desk
for a change.....................of
course, this means I shall have
to do a spot of housekeeping, or
should I be calling it "craft keeping"?

While I start on that,  I'll leave
you with Jane Castle who has a
beautiful project to share with you

"Great topic and these new stamps from
 Blue Fern Studios fit the bill so well. 

For the vintage feel I wanted to create a 
postcard with the feeling of something 
that had been in a shop window for a
 couple of years and been bleached 
by the sun------ 

I hope you think I was successful!

I began by stamping the postcard part first 
so as to gauge how everything else 
would fit together. 

Postcard was stamped in Vintage Photo 
Distress Oxide ink and spritzed with water. 

The main image was from Blue Fern Studios 
Country Garden stamp set, this was inked in 
Archival Cornflower Blue, then parts were wiped 
with a new baby wipe and then re-inked in 
Starlight Silver and Pearlescent Olive.

I then added a little bit of colour with Antique Linen
 and Old Paper Distress Ink. 

The old postage stamp was attached and
 the edges torn and distressed.

Next I coloured my background card
 with Dark Brown Brushos which were 
activated by painting on a layer of 
PaperArtsy Satin Glaze. 

Once dry I then lightly sprinkled on some 
Turquoise Brushos and spritzed with water, 
after about 10secs dabbed with kitchen paper.

 Finally this was randomly stamped with second
 generation Vintage Photo ink using one of the small 
stamps from PaperArtsy ESC03.

Then onto the honeycomb frame work ---- 

This was achieved by using a die from 
Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlits set and 
cutting the 4 corners.

 Although this overlapped in a couple of places 
it doesn't matter as the centre is discarded.

The edges were stamped with the smaller 
of the 2 stamps from Blue Fern Studios Ornamentals 
in Versa-Mark and heat embossed with Aged Ivory EE.

The centre was cut away and the postcard
 was slotted into place.

The banner/bunting was cut from card that had 
been coloured with Brushos and painted with Satin Glaze.

The flowers were from an old pack of paper 
flowers that I found in my stash.  
I sprinkled them with the Dark Brown Brushos
 and then sprayed with Prima Color Bloom. 

These were paired up and attached with metal brads. 
A few leaves were die cut  to go under the flowers.

A couple of twists made from some jewelry wire
 and finally a shrink plastic clock for the top.

This brand of clear stamps were new to me 
and I have to say I've been very pleased 
with them. One feature I really like is that 
on the larger stamps where there is more
 than one image they are easy to utilise and 
mix and match."

Hallo Everyone!

Here we are with a new topic
and some super new projects

Helen Chilton is going to start
us off.  Over to you Helen.....

"This project uses Brushos, 
but this time on Yupo paper. 
They give a much softer effect on the Yupo.

Start off by VersaMarking your stamp and 
then rubbing in dry the three colours of Brushos.

Spritz with water and stamp repeatedly........

..........until you've built up a whole background.
 Looks a mess? Don't worry.

Blot it back with kitchen paper...........

.......and hey presto! A lovely soft, muted background
 with just traces of the stamp image here and there.

Next stamp one image onto Yupo as before
 using a Stamp Positioner if you've got one.

Let it dry and then ink up just parts of the stamp
 with Watering Can Archival inkpad and stamp.

Keep going, picking out details, until you're happy. 
Add extra diamonds from the stamp in grey 
round the edges.

Echo the diamond shapes in the stamp 
by stencilling in yellow over the background.

It will then look like this.

Use the Tim Holtz Mixed Media Thinlits die set 1
 to cut out the corners of your background and 
overlay on scrapbook paper. 

Then cut some more out of blueish paper 
and use the actual cut shapes.

Lay the top shapes slightly offset to create 
an interesting pattern.

Cut a hexagon background for your main images 
and add border stamping in grey. Add brads

Add fibres and beaded embellishments.

versatile.  Would make a wall hanging,
a book cover, or even a card front....

Been a while since I gave my Brushos
